Intro

As the lead designer for San-X’s Rilakkuma 20th Anniversary U.S. tour, I had the opportunity to create dynamic, engaging videos that brought this beloved character to life across six major cities. From conceptualizing the teaser video to finalizing the post-tour footage, my role spanned the full creative process, blending animation, storytelling, and live event coverage. Each video celebrated the unique energy of the tour while highlighting the connection between Rilakkuma and its devoted fanbase.

Teaser Tour Video

I undertook the creation of the teaser video in celebration of San-X's momentous 20th anniversary for Rilakkuma. Commemorating this milestone, the Rilakkuma tour made its presence felt across six major cities in the U.S.: New Jersey, Dallas, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, and Chicago, filming live pop-up events to showcase an array of fans, limited edition merchandise and meet-and-greet mascots. My involvement in the 8-month project started with helping to plan social media posts and the development of the teaser video.


In conjunction with the teaser video, I created intricate animations that served as integral components of the visual narrative. One animation featured the tour bus journeying across the six major U.S. cities, seamlessly connecting with the essence of the Rilakkuma tour's nationwide presence. The second animation showcased an elegant photo flip sequence, transitioning between shots and contributing to the video's captivating flow.


Post Tour Video

In the production of the post tour video, I created storyboards to plan the visual composition of the shots, which served as the foundation for the video's production. I traveled to four of the aforementioned cities, capturing event footage in collaboration with tour site managers, ensuring the visuals harmonized with the project's overarching objectives. 


I finalized the post-tour video by integrating the footage captured firsthand along with contributions from other team members from the other two cities. This collaborative effort culminated in the production of the definitive video, which was then published on San-X's YouTube channel.


Social Media

I designed social media graphics for Instagram using client branding, design assets, and product photos to attract more attendees to the tour locations. Working alongside my team, we managed the event tour’s Instagram account, where I contributed to creating engaging and visually consistent posts.
